EARTHEN is an interactive show about the material of clay, form and culture.
It is a celebration of clay, a transformative material that has played a pivotal role in our evolution and culture throughout history. Humans have grown up with clay, since the beginning of our evolution on earth. From ancient times to the present, clay has nurtured humanity, serving as a vessel for sustenance while also as a medium to explore our human existence. Its sustainable and natural qualities resonate deeply with our contemporary values, reminding us of our connection to the earth and the importance of environmental responsibility. It is sustainable, natural and useful from serving to protect, build and carry our food and plant life in the most beautiful ways. Its potential purpose in domestic interior design, medicine, architecture and as a construction material is astounding. It is therefore integral technologically to our present and future lives. In this show artists push their practices into experimentation and conceptual expansion with clay as material. This exhibition digs into the versatility of clay that nods to the Venus of Paleolithic times, to the ceramic roots of Mexico traditions all the way through the idiosyncratic methods of each of the artist's conceptual practice. EARTHEN stands as a vibrant platform for community engagement and connection, reinforcing Mad Art’s commitment to fostering artistic expression and cultural dialogue, and inviting diverse audiences to explore, create, and appreciate art in all its forms.
