Story-telling is an ancient art form. This exhibition embraces the stories behind material culture. The stories come from all kinds of domestic objects, from handmade to memorabilia, from treasures to travel companions, all identified as special in the eyes of the owner. Objects from the community will be on display framing the interior boundaries of the gallery. The Objects will be stacked and arranged across the entire gallery walls like a sea of still life. The Still Life genre known to be traced back to ancient Egypt and Rome was popularized in 17th century as allegorical painting in Europe. The Still Life moved away from tradition and evolved into a vehicle for experimentation from the 1850’s to today, especially with the avant-garde of Cubism, Surrealism, Dada and photography at the turn of the 20th Century. Not only does it have broad aesthetic appeal, but its adaptability for artistic expression explores consumerism, memory, environmentalism, and the mundane aspects of everyday life.

Accompanying this exhibition are 2 story-telling nights where creatives from the community share their stories of how these objects came into their lives.
